By the looks of it (and I mean, basically just on the premise, no spoilers here) Burial At Sea is going to be a prequel to BioShock. BaS might spoil BioShock, it might not, but either way there's a 90% chance that BaS will make barely any sense without having played BioShock, since Irrational can safely assume that most people who play BaS will have played BioShock beforehand.

It's okay, but as i i said, us not liking the story won't make it non-canon. As sad as it may be, Burial at Sea is canon. I'm saying that because it was stated by Levine in one of his interviews before Episode 1, that Rapture from DLC's is, indeed, Rapture from Bioshock, and Elizabeth is Elizabeth from Infinite.
Now in Burial at Sea 2 Elizabeth enters Rapture as a human and loses her memory, but as confused as she is about why she is there she never loses that devotion and connection to restore Sally’s life even if she doesn’t know why it’s so important to her. Whenever memories are created, apparently intentions remain intact.
The ending of BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea Episode 1 reveals that Booker DeWitt is not the same person as Comstock, the original ruler of Rapture. He is another version of Comstock who managed to escape Elizabeth's purge and survive in a different reality. The DLC explores how this happened and what it means for the game's story and characters.
Female Splicer in Burial at Sea.. Splicers encountered in Burial at Sea may seem similar to the Leadhead and Thuggish Splicers in BioShock in terms of armament and personality, but as far as attack strategy (aside from the special Frosty Splicers) they're far closer to the enemy combatants encountered in Columbia from BioShock Infinite.

Burial at Sea is a tricky one. Most people believe that the events happened after Infinite, but thats wrong. It happened in a parallel universe to Infinite at the same time. Elizabeth collapse from the superposition in the beginning of BaS 2, because this event happens right after the drowning in Infinite and she become a normal human.

But just so I'm clear, the Comstock that gets Anna decapitated goes to live in Rapture and the Elizabeth that contacts him there is different from the one in Infinite, right?
